Hele Box Duo Bundle

The quality of the Hele Box camping platform is exactly what I expected when I received it. I ended up needing a shortening kit for my car, and their team was very responsive and quick about shipping one to me.

Let me start by saying I’ve done a fair amount of camping over the years - tent camping with a young family, then trailer tent camping and then a hard sided trailer for over a decade. Family health issues canceled a lot of my outdoor activities but now my time has opened up again and I am ready to get back out there.
I already own a good sized SUV but as an older female I didn’t want to get back into towing and storing a trailer and I didn’t particularly want to lie on the ground in a tent and frankly- be an easy target for those with nefarious ideas in mind. So I decided that car camping was the way to go. I spent many months pondering the options that would give me a decent bed - I am 5 ft 8 inches in height - I tried on one trip to make do with a memory foam mattress in the rear of the vehicle but that was cold, the floor was uneven and believe it or not maneuvering around in the space was almost impossible- so much clutter on the floor with me! A raised bed seemed to be the solution so I could have storage AND resolve the issue of the not totally flat cargo area. However, other options seemed to be constructed of wood with heavy drawers, which although seem to be a nice idea, would be heavy and awkward to move in and out of the vehicle. I live on my own and don’t want to risk a back injury right before heading out on a trip. So I decided on the Hele bed (single) and am thrilled with it. I was able to do most of the assembly in my living room, carry it out to the vehicle and slide it into position and then fit the “long” legs to it in the vehicle. No back strain, no need to ask someone to help me lift it, no problems at all. The storage bag it comes in works well and is a nice bonus. Something that is never mentioned- this little bed could also find a place in your home as a temporary bed for an overnight guest - my granddaughter will be using it like this next time she visits (but not in the car - that would get me in trouble although it could be a useful threat if the little ankle snapper doesn’t behave ;-))
The bed is very sturdy, doesn’t squeak or shake when you lie on it and is a very fair price considering the other options out there.

I was able to install the full size 72” Hele Box platform in my 2015 Golf 2 door. Before I installed it I had previously removed the rear seat and built a storage box with covers that provided a flat area with the hatchback floor. I was able to sleep on the floor but had to sleep at an angle to be comfortable since I am 6 ft tall. With the Hele Box I am able to sleep straight and store stuff underneath the platform. In addition to the storage this makes it possible to pea at night without getting out of my car.
The Hele Box is very well designed. It is 99% aluminum and wood and should last a long time. It is adjustable so if you are parked on any sort of an incline you can adjust the legs so that the sleeping platform is level. It should only take a few minutes to complete the setup as I will travel with it mostly setup. I am looking forward to trying out the table feature. I don’t have any suggestions now to improve on the design, but if I do I will pass them along to Murray, the brains responsible for this fine product.

It fits perfectly in my 2022 Honda CR-V, and the carrying case is sleek and adds storage seamlessly under the bed.

I really appreciate that it came with two extended legs as well as six short ones. Not only does this platform make it easy to get out on adventures, but having the short legs also allowed me to use it as a bed in my new home while waiting for furniture to arrive. It’s incredibly versatile, and I found myself surprised at how often I was thinking of using it in other situations.

The company also worked with me on a more complicated shipping request. They were extremely kind, followed my instructions perfectly, and made the whole process smooth.

I'm an engineer, and love when a design is simple and just works. This is one of those products. It literally took me less than 10 minutes to figure out (instructions are included), put together and install the first time in my Jeep Wrangler JL. The longer 6ft version works just fine as long as you follow their video on moving the front legs back a bit to rest on the back of the back seats when folded down. It's lightweight, sturdy, and easy to put in and take out. It's also simple to assemble/disassemble, but I have enough room in my garage that I can leave it assembled. Murray also got back to me quickly with some questions I had about it, which I really appreciated. Highly recommended!
