This platform is awesome! I was looking for a 72 inch cot to fit in my ultra lite camper, but I don't like how normal cots tend to sag in the middle. I also needed the platform to be modular, light weight, and easy to remove, so building my own setup out of wood was out of the question.
The Hele Box checked all of those boxes for me and then some. It's very light weight and easy to setup and take down. Assembly takes 5 minutes with the right tools. I've overloaded the top of it with gear and have slept on it over 100 nights. The thing just takes it. Also driven it in the back of the camper over 70,000 miles since purchase. Buy this platform you won't regret it!

I've been searching for a practical bed option that I could use in both my Prius and my RAM ProMaster City as well as light enough to carry through the airport when I fly and rent a SUV at my destination. I regularly drive to OR and NV to work on vacant land and was looking to fly instead of making those long drives. I previously bought a modular camper box (solo bed) but that bed is 40lbs so not practical to bring on flights and wouldn't fit in most rented SUV. That camper bed only fit in my van. Hoping for a better solution, I kept searching and was delighted to find the Hele Box. This elegant bed solution checked all my requirements. I like that each leg is easily adjustable so I can level my bed instead of needing to level my vehicle, which is ideal for me because I usually arrive late and in low light. The Hele Box fit great in both my Prius and my RAM ProMaster City and I'm looking forward to flying with my Hele Box =o). Thank you so much for a creative product and I wish you great success.
I’ve tried other brands before and ended up returning them — losing a fair amount in shipping and restocking fees. Nothing else I’ve seen matches the Hele Box in design, engineering, and quality of materials. The frame is impressively light yet solid, and it adjusts easily to fit a variety of installation configurations.
I own one of the few 2007 4Runners with third-row seats (removed), which means my back seats don’t come out easily. They fold forward, but the bench portion can’t be separated from the back — removing them is difficult and not desirable. The Hele Box is the only system I’ve found that adapts perfectly to this setup.
Installation and removal are quick and straightforward, and the included case keeps everything neatly organized. The wooden slats are simple to add or remove, and the whole setup stores compactly when not in use. I’ll be putting it to the test soon on an upcoming Appalachian Trail maintenance trip — but based on the build quality and fit, I’m confident it’s going to perform flawlessly.
One minor note: the slats can rattle a bit on bumpy roads if there’s no pad or gear on them, but that should disappear once you have added a pad and gear on top of them for a trip.
